Hi. My name is Paul Collins, and I was born in Shevington in 1966. I live in both the Ward and Shevington Parish.
I am a proud father of 2 daughters and a son. I am also blessed with 5 wonderful grandchildren. I love my family and my community and take an active part to improve the area where I live. I enjoy making use of our amazing open spaces and observing local wildlife and am a member of the RSPB. I am passionate about helping people less fortunate than myself and will always strive to assist and enable them to make the most of their own potential.
I serve as an elected member of Wigan Metropolitan Borough Council, selected as a candidate by members of Shevington with Lower Ground Ward Branch Labour Party. I was first elected onto the
council for the first time on May 5th, 2011 and have been re-elected 3 times May 7th, 2015, May 2nd, 2019, and May 4th 2023
Since being elected I was one of eight council members selected to be Deal Ambassadors to get Wigan Councils flagship programme "The Deal" up and running. I am currently a member of the Health & Social Care Scrutiny Committee, Confident Council Scrutiny Committee and Access Committee. I have also served as a Director on the Board for Wigan & Leigh Homes prior to it being brought back under the control of the council.
Other scrutiny committees I have or continue to serve include as follows
I work closely with my Ward Colleagues Councillors Vicky Galligan, Mike Crosby and Lisa Nandy MP to ensure that our Ward residents get the best representation on Wigan Council and in Parliament
